Law No. 2/2010, of March 15, approved several amend-ments to the VAT refund regime, particularly regarding the terms for refund.

The most relevant amendment concerns the reduction of the term for VAT refunds from 90 to 60 days, that will enter into force for refund requests made after July 1, 2010.

Within the scope of the Government programme “Employment Initiative 2010” created to assure employment maintenance, to stimulate the inclusion of young people in the employment market, to promote the creation of job posts and to fight unemployment, an Administrative Ruling (“Portaria nº99/2010”) was published establishing an exceptional measure regarding employment support for 2010.  This measure consists in the decrease of 1% of the contribution paid by the employer to the Social Security.

The amount for the national minimum salary has been amended by the Decree-Law n. 5/2010, January 15.
Consequently, the national minimum salary for the year 2010, is of €475.
