The fine line between EMIs and PSPs Seminar

This 3-hour seminar shall be dedicated to highlighting the salient differences between Electronic Money Institutions and Payment Services Providers. There is a fine line between the two due to regulatory restrictions. What can a company with an EMI license do differently when compared to a company with a PSP license? Different activities may lead to a requirement of having a different license.

This seminar will be delivered by Dr Ursula Farrugia in Malta on the 30th July 2019 and 09:15 – 13:30.

Dr Farrugia joined CSB Legal in 2018 to specifically assist the firm with its portfolio of financial services and fintech clients.

Dr Farrugia read Law at the University of Malta and was conferred a Bachelor of Laws with Archaeology in 2009 and a Diploma of Notary Public in 2010. She obtained her Doctor of Laws in 2013 after having presented her thesis entitled ‘Financial Parallel Investigations and the Confiscation of Proceeds from Serious Crimes’. Dr Farrugia proceeded to obtain a master’s degree from the University of Malta in Financial Services, and successfully defended her dissertation entitled ‘The regulatory impact of MiFID II and MIFIR on European Capital Markets; the process of “MiFIDisation” or over-regulation?

During her previous experiences, Dr Farrugia has worked as an in-house counsel for a very well-established international investment advisory company, assisting the management of such company’s worldwide regulatory procedures, as well as day-to-day operations, including being responsible for legal and compliance matters of the same.

Dr Farrugia is a member of the Chamber of Advocates and the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners.
